I discovered the most adorable wallpaper a few days ago and decided that it needed to be used in a living room design. I hope you all like it as much as I do!

My cute 12 year old daughter Bailey is beyond excited that her sister Ashley will be moving out soon! She is not excited that Ashley will be away at college, but that it means that she will finally get her own room. She has been planning her room for months and wanted me to come up with two designs for her to choose between. She decided the colors and themes of each design and loves them both which is making it impossible for her to decide. Which would you choose?
#1: Sunset Bedroom (Sorry no links. i designed this bedroom a while ago and didn’t save the link details.)

#2: Peachy Bedroom

My adorable niece Jessie and her husband recently purchased and will soon be moving into her childhood home in Virginia! They want to get a head start on ordering furniture, etc. so that it can all be ready to go when they arrive after their long trip across the country, so Jessie asked if I could help her out. She said, “In my current house, I went very bohemian with lots of colors (think opal house brand meets world market) and I liked the funkiness of it, but it also started to wear on me. I like the clean feel of Joanna farmhouse, but don’t like the lack of color. I’m hoping to stick a balance of bohemian/farmhouse with soothing, airy colors (like sage green, or calming teals/grays) I also want it to feel light and open! I traditionally like mid-century modern furniture (like this sofa https://www.article.com/product/2974/timber-rain-cloud-gray-corner-sectional) but am open to leather, other colors/styles, etc! I’m thinking I’ll need something large scale on the wall to anchor the room, and I don’t want to do a TV over the fireplace. I’m in no rush and I know you’re busy, so don’t feel ANY pressure whatsoever!! I’m just so grateful to get a talented expert helping me!!!” She already had several rugs in mind that she was interested in so I based my design on the rug that I liked best from the options she sent. This is the picture that she sent me:

Here is the design that I created for her, followed by the links and details:

I would probably get two couches and four chairs for your room. You could have the gray couches facing each other with a set of chairs on each end. And possibly a round coffee table in the middle. I would do long floating shelves above your couch on that big open wall and style them with layered art and other decor. Above your fireplace I would set a round mirror like the one pictured. I know that is a corner but I think it would probably work to just set a round mirror on the fireplace and then you could style some greenery or other decor as well. I would keep it very simple though. Another option would be to just remove the fireplace if possible. I have put some examples of artwork, a faux tree, books and other ideas that you could use for styling.
My friend Jeni asked if I could come up with a design for her teenage son’s bedroom. Some of his interests include baseball (specifically a Dodger’s fan), fishing, music and reading. He also knew that he wanted a light gray blue color on the walls. Here are the before pictures:

These are his design boards:

I think it would look awesome to divide the walls as pictured and paint the upper part the lighter blue gray and the lower part a dusty blue. You could add some sort of wainscoting if you were up for a project where the dusty blue color is or just paint that on the wall and do a piece of trim in between the two colors. You could even do a piece of trim that was more like a little mini shelf around the entire room. Does that make sense? I kept the charcoal bedding in the picture but I would get some gray and white striped sheets to go under that with a white throw blanket that has a little black stripes and blue throw pillows to go on the bed. I think it would look really good to get a wood bedframe or headboard to add and a wood element to the room. I would paint the desk that he has gray and then get a white and gray bulletin board to hang above that. It would also look awesome to get a black bean bag/chair or something like that to have in the corner of the room. I love that he has so much wall space in there. It would look really cool to hang some black metal racks on the wall for book storage. You could also get some more Dodgers decor to hang in a gallery on the wall. You could get some baseball pictures in the color scheme that I picture above. More black and white and tan colors. You could layer them on the little shelf/trim that goes around the room. It would be cool to get a little console shelf like the one pictured to sit below the pictures where you could put additional decor or books. If he doesn’t want so much baseball stuff in his room, really he could do anything just in the color scheme that matches. You could print out and frame some of his favorite quotes from general conference or scriptures, etc.
Keisha has been a family friend for years. She is such a wonderful person and I was very happy to give her some ideas to spruce up her bedroom. She already had a lot of gray and white and recently added the wood plank wall behind her bed. She also loves her dog and plans to hang a large picture of him up somewhere in her room. She doesn’t have a lot of space but needed a little inspiration for how to finish the room. Here are the before pictures:

This is the design board that I created for her:

I have no idea if you like pink but I love how it looks with gray. I included some ideas of things that you could put on your wood wall. A cute white wall ladder that leans against the wall, a white mirror, wall art that pulls together the pink and gray. Those are a few ideas for you. I think it would be awesome to ground the room with a white and gray area rug. Also, I think it would be great to add a really small narrow bedside table that you can put a little lamp on. And if you have room a cute little pink accent chair would be adorable in the corner of your room!
Katie is a friend that is ready for a re-vamp of her family room and dining area. Her family spends a lot of time in their family room where the lighting has been pretty bad so she was hoping for some ideas to lighten everything up. Here are the pictures that she sent me:

This is the design board that I created for her:

The rug is a lighter color with white grays and camel colors in it. I like the idea of painting the wood above your fireplace white and you could also white wash the brick/stone around it. I think you could keep the chairs you already have. It would be cute to get a textured ottoman like the one I have pictured. A round black metal mirror would look good above the fireplace and you could also do a glass/black metal end table. I included a faux tree in your design because it would be great to add greenery. Also, white curtains would really brighten up the room.

It seems like you have the space that you could maybe do a round table. I would also add white curtains on those windows that are in that area that would match the curtains in your family room. I went with a neutral woven rug for under the table. I think a gray/natural wood table would look great highlighted with some black dining chairs. It’s amazing how just adding a rug really grounds the room and can pull everything together.
Jeni is a friend from high school that reached out for some help with her master bedroom. They have been in their home for seven years but have never gotten around to doing anything with their master. Jeni said that she is not afraid to paint or repurpose things so to try to incorporate the furniture that she already had as much as possible. Here are the pictures she sent:

This is the design I created for her:

I think you could spray paint your bedframe black and then paint your nightstands this pretty steel blue and add gold hardware. Paint your dresser white and add black hardware. You could get a rug to put under your bed that would ground everything and add color. I really like working with blue because I feel like there are so many shades and you can add a lot of dimension by playing with different blues and grays together. Would it be possible to move your bed in front of the big window and frame the window with white curtains? That would really lighten up the room and add a focal point. It’s hard to tell from the pictures what the space is like in the room. Anyway, you could also paint your huge mirror the same pretty blue color as your nightstand. It would look cute to have that leaning up against the wall with a new chair sitting by it. For your bedding I would just get a white comforter with white sheets and then get a pretty quilt like the one pictured that has the right colors in it that you could fold and lay across the end of your bed. Then get throw colors pillows that pull out the blue white and tan colors. Always add greenery to your room, whether it is stems in a vase sitting on your dresser or a faux tree. You could also do a cute gallery wall.
Barb is a tennis coach to some of my girls. She has not done a lot of decorating in her home yet but would love to get started with some inspiration and help. She wanted to start with a new kitchen table and needed some help to know what would look good with the different wood stains and colors in her home. These are the pictures she sent me:

This is the design board that I created for her:

I think it would be really fun to get a gray wood table with slightly white washed chairs and two navy blue accent chairs to go at either end of the table. I love the idea to of getting a rug to put under your table that pulls the light blue of your backsplash along with navy. I would highlight your table with white floral stems and some thing similar to the table setting that I have pictured.
Mina is a dear friend of mine that recently made the decision to focus her work in a different direction. She wanted a space in her home that would help her feel her “high vibe” and bring out her creativity. She had purchased a picture that spoke to her that she wanted to design the room around. She asked if I could help her with the layout and design of the room. This is the picture that was her inspiration:

Who wants to go play? Creating an inviting space for children to play in has saved my sanity! We have a family with eight girls and two boys, so our playroom has been well used and re-organized almost every Saturday for the past 15 years. I love having a cute space in my home for my children to play in and that all the toys can collect in. Throughout the week as toys get strung out, I love just closing the door and pretending like the mess isn’t there. Then on Saturday mornings we set a timer and the family works together and pretends we are Mary Poppins and magically get the room whipped back into shape!
